We believe children learn

best through play

The learning through play philosophy offers many opportunities for children to express their emotions, build relationships and shape good behaviour. These skills help children grow and thrive preparing them for success in elementary school. As children successfully experience each challenge, they are building confidence to become a successful learner.

Environment

St. Catherine’s Preschool has three large, bright classrooms designed to enhance each child’s learning experience in a safe and nurturing environment.  We have a fully equipped indoor gym as well as a wonderful outdoor area with an adventure playground. During the warmer months painting, chalking, bubbles, and water play are also offered outside. These two areas provide exceptional space for lots of physical development.

St Catherine’s provides individual support when children require it.  All children benefit by developing empathy for themselves and others who learn differently.

Christian Education

St. Catherine’s Preschool is an inclusive Christian preschool that welcomes families from all cultures and faiths. We seek to enhance and affirm the loving values and concepts taught in your home. Grace is said before snack. The children are encouraged to share, be kind and considerate to others, as well as to appreciate their role in the environment. Each child is valued as a unique person.

Christmas and Easter are celebrated with the children leading special preschool services for their parents and families, highlighting what they have learned in their music classes.

Teaching Staff

St. Catherine’s prides itself on the excellence of its teaching staff. All teachers have or are working towards their Early Childhood Education (ECE) accreditation, and some have post basic i.e., infant/toddler and special needs and all have current First Aid Certificates. Professional Development is a priority at St. Catherine’s and the staff continue to update their skills by attending workshops and seminars to be on the cutting edge of ECE trends.

We offer a teacher-to-child ratio of 1 to 8 in our three and four -year old Preschool Programs.

Most importantly our team is a fun-loving and caring group of professionals who enjoy teaching your children.

Our Development Resource Teacher is available to assist teachers in identifying when children may need either a challenge in the program or extra support to meet their developmental goals and milestones. Please contact Marion Porter for more information, 604-980-1328 or stcpre@telus.net.

Music Program*

Each 3 and 4 year old class participates in a weekly half-hour music class in small groups of children. Our  teaching method incorporates nursery rhymes, songs and musical concepts for all our students. Speech, song, movement and instruments give young children an excellent foundation for future musical development.
